Abu Ghraib Mural
'I seved as an MP Sgt with 306th MPBN at Abu Ghraib (post scandal) who ran one of the detention camps during the early years of the war. As a Christian, it was always compelling and actually somehow soothing at the same time. It was positioned center of the lineup area where we give roll call before pur 13 hour overnight shift.
I do not know the name of the painter unfortunately, or I would certainly offer it. Maybe if published, this could draw him or her out privately, and thus claim it?'

'In country only a week before we lost Stephen Castner. Charlie Company 1-121st FA retrained to do convoy security based in Kuwait leading all convoys into Iraq. We were the the only unit to travel the entire country of Iraq on our escort missions. I, Sgt. Philip Betzhold ran a squad of 9 of over 100,000 miles throughout Iraq. This barrier was the least we could do in rememberence of who we lost and what we did.'

Cigardez Cigar Club
AP Lightning, Afghanistan
'The T-wall artist is then 1LT Joseph Giralt, the XO of the 659th Engineer Construction Company, photo taken at the mural’s completion in June 2018. Although we were regulars at Cigardez, it’s origins precede our unit. It was a weekly bonfire & cigar meet-up at AP Lightning, Afghanistan, with a large & dedicated following, year round. During our time, it was organized by a US civilian, who received large shipments from Cigars For Warriors & others, as well as generously bought many himself, just to share with troops at Cigardez. It was already an institution when we arrived in January 2018 & was still going strong when we left in July. As the engineers, we were happy to contribute great quantities of scrap lumber for the bonfire, & of course, the talents of our XO when he painted their mural.'

Cigar clubs like Cigardez or Tali-Banned in Afghanistan supported by groups such as Cigars for Warriors provide a welcome respite to troops.

' Task Force Green Mountain was a conglomerate of units that became the 172nd MP BN. We were in Kuwait as a SecFor in 2005. This was a mural at Buehring that a team of soldiers painted - although I am sad to admit I cannot remember names. It was still there as of 2018 when this picture was taken.'

'Mural was painted as a memorial to Task Force Jayhawk, which served as the Garrison Command for Victory Base Complex from December 2008 to October 2009. I served as the TF Commander and Garrison Commander of VBC. We took the name Jayhawk as the unit was from Kansas City, Kansas, and Jayhawk is the unofficial name for Kansans. We used the University of Kansas official Jayhawk mascot as our template and dressed him in battle dress.

The clinic was named in honor of Davis from Charlie Company, 10th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. ' I drew most of life before joining the US Army. I have a AA in Multimedia. Anyway, I decide to paint a war mural on my second tour of Iraq during OIF III. Was stationed at FOB Paliwoda in the center of Balad, Iraq. Not to be confused with LSA Anaconda, were the big base was stationed 30 miles away. Hope you like my painting. Mine is the Unforgiven mural. We dedicated in memory of the 203rd Iraqi National Guard we trained that lost their lives helping the US. I found other murals on base from OIF II when 1st infantry was stationed there before us.'

'My name is Julio Villanueva I was in the Army. When I deployed to Iraq in 05-06 I was a specialist and I had an opportunity to airbrush a mural in front of our HQ building. During the time it sounded like a good way to boost soldiers morale when coming back from our missions of base. I never thought how it help me until I saw warmurals.com I was not only trying to boost morale but in turn helped me escape war for a day. It was an honor to have that opportunity and to get a COA from my unit was a big deal for me. I now do art therapy with vetart.org and still to this day I find it very therapeutic to do art in any form. Thank you for reading my paragraph and I hope this will help others find their therapy to cope with the injuries that we come back with from war. - USA RET SGT Villanueva'

FOB Lightning Afghanistan 2009- Jeff Met

' I, Jeff Metheny, then a SSG in the US Army painted these patches of units which came through our AO in 2008-2009. Everything was named for those who died. There was nothing for the living. To help raise morale I started painting the patches with the blessing of the ARSIC-E commander. I could get all the paint and brushes I wanted but not paint thinner and fuel was too valuable to use. Not wanting to throw away countless numbers of brushes due to not being able to clean them, I started pondering what to do. One day after lunch I took a toothpick out of my mouth to throw away and noticed out of the corner of my eye that it looked kind of like a brush. There were 1,000s of toothpicks, problem solved. I started painting and continue painting with toothpicks as a way of honoring my brothers and sisters in arms past and present.'
Jeff also painted the the jump wings in the gym and ordnance crest by the arms room at Camp Stone ARSIC-W, Afghanistan during 2009.
